Dear Friends,
It is my hope that you will find out about all kinds of performing arts events through this blog. I will continue to add links to connect you to information about shows in the city and in Westchester, and I will update this letter to let you know about any interesting shows I have seen.
On my "to see" list are the following off-Broadway gems:
Circle Mirror Transformation, which is getting tremendous reviews and has a brilliant cast that includes Deirdre O'Connell and Heidi Schreck. Playing through January 17th at Playwrights Horizons, it is billed as an "unusual but absorbing new play." 212-279-4200 for tickets.
The Emperor Jones, which was such a success at Irish Repertory Theatre (directed by the brilliant Ciaran O'Reilly) that it moved downtown to SoHo Playhouse for an extended run through January 31st. Reviews have said you'll never see a better production of this O'Neill play, and they are probably right. Call 212-727-2737 or visit www.IrishRep.org for tickets.
And if you've never been to Repertorio Espanol, you're in for an enchanting treat. They are currently running Calderon de la Barca's Life is a Dream, Isabel Allende's House of the Spirits, and more. Don't worry, the shows offer a simultaneous audio translation into English! Visit www.repertorio.org for more information.
For some thrilling dance performances, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre's season is running through January 3rd at City Center. Call 212-581-1212 or visit www.alvinailey.org. Buy two or more performances and you'll receive a 20% discount.
For more dance, I recommend the critically-acclaimed Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca for a fiery evening of flamenco. Call 212-279-4200 for more information.
Please also let me know what you are getting out there to see. You can do so by filling out a comment (below) and then I can share your report with other readers. People have told me they are hesitant to write in because they are not confident about their writing skills. Please feel free just to write in the name of a show and that you liked it; it does not have to be a full review.
